Ethical Dilemmas In The Workplace - Free Essay Example
As a Federal employee, we must always place loyalty to high ethical standards above private gain. Be able to understand the process and perceiving ethics rules can be very essential to fulfilling your way of how to work in a productive workplace without any drama. Durable business ethics starts at the top of the company and works its way down to every level of operations. In a code of ethics for most business can be the foundation of the guiding principles, both legal and value-oriented that companies practice to preserve their moral compass. Uncertainty an ethical dilemma arises, you should consider what is legal, what is in the code of ethics and what is the best for the people involved and the company is always the right way to handle an ethical dilemma that rise within the workplace. Leonard, K said the law is usually pretty straightforward with what is allowed and what isnt. If the ethical dilemma is thought to arise because of not following the law or because of compliance regulations, the resolution is usually straightforward, as well. Its also said that all employees are expected to obey the law. If an employee is skimming money from the register, hurting someone or forging customers signatures, disciplinary action should follow the confirmation of the illegal activity (Leonard, K. (2018, June 30). Mayhew, R stated that its important to not rush into firing an employee. Follow the protocol as outlined in the employee manual, which states what to do in this instance. You usually start with restricting employee duties, pending an investigation. Although by keeping things as confidential as an investigation allows, determine if the employee actually broke the law, then call the legal authorities, if necessary. Not only do you need to stop the illegal behavior, but you also need to protect yourself and your business from adverse legal action for dismissing an employee without proper cause. Progressing a workplace policy based on your companys philosophy, mission statement, and code of conduct that can help your company flow in a productive way. Incorporate the policy into your performance management program to hold employees accountable for their actions and alert them to their responsibilities to uphold professional standards throughout their job performance and interaction with peers and supervisors. Revise your employee handbook to include the policy and provide copies of the revised handbook to employees. Obtain signed acknowledgment forms from employees that indicate they received and understand the workplace ethics policy. (Mayhew, R. (2018, June 30). I know myself working for the federal/government they are very strict about keeping the ethics code within the workplace flow as easy as possible so that no dilemma issues will come up.
